Seminar: “Reflection on Writing And Getting Published in Academia”

On the morning of July 13, 2022, at UEH, a Seminar session with the theme: “Reflection on Writing And Getting Published in Academia” took place in a hybrid form (both online and face to face in Room B1.205, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City). The seminar plays an important role in the series of “Applied Seminars in Language Teaching” – International Conference on Applied Linguistics & Language Education (ICALLE 2022), co-organized by the School of Foreign Languages and International Languages And Country Studies Institute, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City.

The seminar speaker is a famous education expert from Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand), Assoc. Prof. Jonathan Newton. He has been working for more than thirty years in the field of language teaching and language teacher education in New Zealand and China. He is currently the Programme Director of the MA Programme in TESOL of Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand). The seminar attracts many domestic and international authors, lecturers, teachers, and researchers in language practice to attend to find the right strategies, skills, and approaches to get their articles published in academic journals.

During only two- hour session, a lot of techniques, tips, personal experience and list of trusted articles are shared honestly by Assoc. Prof. Jonathan Newton. The Q&A session become hot than ever when a long list of waiting questions are sent via online chanel as well as the questions from the offline attendants are still raised continuosly.

The seminar is a vital step in preparing for the International Conference on Applied Linguistics and Language Education (ICALLE), which will take place on October 21-22 to support academic activities and find advanced methods as well as programs for teaching foreign languages to the community. Ngày hội hướng nghiệp “Career Orientation Day”

Vào ngày 25/03/2022, tại cơ sở B (279 Nguyễn Tri Phương, Phường 5, Quận 10, TP.HCM), Khoa Ngoại ngữ UEH đã phối hợp với các doanh nghiệp đối tác tổ chức Ngày hội hướng nghiệp “Career Orientation Day”. Sự kiện nhằm mục đích định hướng cho các bạn sinh viên những kỹ năng, kinh nghiệm tìm việc làm cần thiết cũng như cung cấp những thông tin quan trọng về xu hướng nghề nghiệp và cơ hội học tập nâng cao cho sinh viên tốt nghiệp trong giai đoạn hiện nay. Chương trình đã nhận được rất nhiều sự quan tâm của các bạn sinh viên đến từ các ngành học khác nhau.

Đến tham dự chương trình có sự góp mặt của ông Harry Ngô – Giám đốc khu vực miền Nam, Công ty tư vấn giáo dục và hướng nghiệp toàn cầu GSE; bà Chi Nguyễn – Đại diện tuyển sinh của Đại học Nottingham Trent; ông Phạm Bình Phương Duy – Giám đốc Công ty đầu tư giáo dục trí tuệ tài năng (Talent Mind Education); cùng quý Thầy/Cô Khoa Ngoại ngữ UEH.

Trong phần khai mạc, ThS. Bùi Mỹ Ngọc – Phó Trưởng Khoa Ngoại ngữ đã có bài phát biểu chào mừng và nhấn mạnh những cơ hội nghề nghiệp mà sự kiện này sẽ đem đến cho sinh viên UEH. Qua Ngày hội này, Khoa Ngoại ngữ cũng mong muốn các em sinh viện của khoa tìm được việc làm phù hợp với khả năng chuyên môn, tìm được những doanh nghiệp để thực tập tốt nghiệp và tham dự Học kỳ doanh nghiệp cùng các cơ hội để đạt được học bổng chương trình đào sau đại học cũng như các chương trình trao đổi văn hóa ngắn hạn.

Chương trình chính gồm 2 phiên Talkshow và một Mini-fair. Talkshow thứ nhất do ông Harry Ngô – Giám đốc khu vực miền Nam Công ty GSE thuyết trình. Ông đã chia sẻ cho các bạn sinh viên về xu hướng cơ hội nghề nghiệp trong giai đoạn hiện nay; những ngành nghề phù hợp với sinh viên UEH; các kỹ năng chuyên môn, kỹ năng mềm, kinh nghiệm làm việc mà các bạn sinh viên có thể vận dụng để xin việc sau khi tốt nghiệp. Tiếp theo đó, Bà Chi Nguyễn – Đại diện tuyển sinh của Đại học Nottingham Trent đã chia sẻ những kinh nghiệm và kiến thức cần chuẩn bị để học lên sau đại học cho các bạn muốn học tiếp sau khi tốt nghiệp đại học. Ngoài những chia sẻ về lý thuyết, các diễn giả cũng đưa ra những case-study thực tế để các bạn sinh viên có thể hình dung được cụ thể hơn về quá trình tìm kiếm công việc làm cho chính mình.

Phần Talkshow thứ hai do ông Phạm Bình Phương Duy – Giám đốc Công ty Talent Mind Education thuyết trình, chia sẻ cho các bạn sinh viên về cơ hội nghề nghiệp ở lĩnh vực Edtech ở Việt Nam. Diễn giả đã chia sẻ những kiến thức thực tế, đưa ra những ví dụ số liệu cụ thể, thu hút được sự chú ý quan tâm của các bạn sinh viên trong khán phòng. Hoạt động ở phần Talkshow này khá sôi nổi, các bạn sinh viên rất hứng thú lắng nghe và đặt câu hỏi tương tác với diễn giả rất tốt.

Kết thúc phần thuyết trình và phần Q&A, các bạn sinh viên di chuyển xuống sảnh B1 tham gia chơi mini-game và tham dự Mini-fair. Mini-fair là một hội chợ triển lãm các chương trình du học cho các bạn sinh viên muốn ra nước ngoài học tập. 08 Trường Đại học đến từ Anh và Úc đã giới thiệu các chương trình học và sẵn sàng tư vấn cho các bạn sinh viên quan tâm. Đây là những đối tác tiềm năng của khoa Ngoại ngữ cho các chương trình trao đổi sinh viên và giảng viên cũng như các hợp tác về học thuật trong thời gian sắp tới.

Ngày hội hướng nghiệp “Career Orientation Day” đã nhận được nhiều sự quan tâm của các bạn sinh viên đến từ các ngành khác nhau của UEH. Đây là sự kiện đầu tiên Khoa Ngoại ngữ phối hợp với các doanh nghiệp đối tác tổ chức, đánh dấu một khởi đầu thành công để tiếp nối những năm tiếp theo Khoa sẽ mở rộng quy mô và kết nối nhiều hơn các doanh nghiệp để các bạn sinh viên có thể tiếp cận được những kiến thức và học hỏi được những kỹ năng mềm từ những chia sẻ thực tế và bổ ích của các diễn giả.

Bên cạnh mục tiêu đào tạo nguồn nhân lực chất lượng cao, đáp ứng nhu cầu của thị trường, chiến lược phát triển của UEH luôn đẩy mạnh các hoạt động kết nối với những tổ chức, đơn vị, doanh nghiệp uy tín để mở rộng mạng lưới kiến thức và nghề nghiệp, từ đó mang đến những cơ hội học tập và nghề nghiệp rộng mở cho mỗi sinh viên UEH.
